The situation

As-built rarely matches as-designed exactly. Finding where they differ usually meant opening the IFC model in one tool, the point cloud in another, and comparing them by eye, object by object. Point cloud web tools often struggle with file size. ScanPlan classifies and renders files up to 30 GB, well beyond where other platforms hit their limits.

The approach

01

Scan the building or space.

02

Classify the objects and their properties directly from the scan, on both geometry and semantics.

03

Automatic comparison of the results against the IFC model to surface differences between as-built and as-designed.

The outcome

Comparing on semantics (classification), not just geometry, is where other platforms fall short. That means less time spent switching between platforms and licenses, and less specialist expertise required to spot a mismatch.
