The situation

Construction rarely goes exactly to plan. Small deviations between what's on site and what the model says are easy to miss in the moment, an opening framed a few centimetres off, a duct routed slightly differently, and expensive to fix once walls close around them.

On a site with an IFC model already in place, the question wasn't whether the build would drift from the model here and there. It was how early anyone would find out.

The approach

From model to site

An IFC model existed for the site. ScanPlan captured the building at 4 stages as construction progressed and compared each scan against that model, surfacing where the two didn't line up.

The outcome

Comparing each scan against the IFC model let the contractor and site supervisor catch problems early, such as a window opening that was too small, while there was still time to redirect the work instead of demolishing and rebuilding it.

The value sits in knowing the build matches the model while you can still do something about it, not after the fact.

ScanPlan has extensive knowledge of 3D scanning and modeling in-house. They understand our needs well and deliver exactly the information we need as a client. These point clouds tell us precisely how the floors run and how the slopes and any settling are doing. That lets us prevent mistakes.
